Story
A small time advocate named Binu Sebastian lives a simple life, making a
living out of petty cases. Binu comes across a sensational case and his
life takes a different turn.
Review: Director Boban Samuel experiments with the character of
Binu Sebastian (Vishnu Unnikrishnan), a small town lawyer in
Vikadakumaran. Binu is a little crooked in character but aspires to
become a well-known criminal lawyer in the Supreme Court. His gumasthan
Manikandan played by Dharmajan Bolgatty supports him throughout. The
bromance of Dharmajan and Vishnu contributes to many laugh-out-loud
moments in the first half. Being an advocate at a first class magistrate
court, Binu Vakkeel’s role model is none other than Adv Nandagopal
Marar, the character of Mammootty in the film Narasimham. A kudumbasree
employee at the court’s canteen, Sindhu (Manasa Radhakrishnan) adds the
romance element in his life. Just like in the segments in Kattapanayile
Rithwik Roshan, Dharmajan reminds the protagonist of his dark skin tone
and average looks. Director-turned-actor Rafi plays a magistrate judge,
while Byju is KD Vakkeel. Leona Lishoy and Indrans also play their parts
well.
The laugh riot takes a serious turn with the entry of the baddie in the movie, played by Jinu Joseph. The second half is filled with thrilling moments and narrates the brilliance of the underdog advocate in solving a sensation case. The case becomes a turning point for Binu and his friends.
Vishnu excels in the role of Binu Vakkeel. But though the film succeeds in the comedy scenes, the story line seems to waver at some points. The villain role of Jinu Joseph doesn’t offer anything new to the audience. The first half lags often and the last parts suggest Salim Kumar’s dialogue in the film, Meesha Madhavan - “Look illa enne ullu bhayankara budhiya”. Watch the movie just for the laughs.
